Kimball Electronics Group has contracted with FARO, for manufacturing and assembly of two (2) Product Families consisting of twenty-nine (29) printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) which will be supplied to FARO of Lake Mary, Florida and their Kenneth Square, Pennsylvania facilities. These printed circuit board assemblies are used in high precision measuring devices named Vantage and Edge by FARO.
FARO develops and markets computer-aided coordinate measurement and imaging devices and software. Portable equipment from FARO permits high-precision 3D measurement, imaging and comparison of parts and compound structures within production and quality assurance processes. The devices are used for inspecting components and assemblies, production planning, 3D documentation, as well as for investigation and reconstruction of accident sites or crime scenes. FARO an industry pioneer and the leader in the field of Computer-Aided Measurement (CAM), was named the 2012 State of Florida Manufacturer of the Year.
The Edge is the most advanced, state-of-the art FaroArm® ever introduced. The FARO Edge simplifies the user experience with improved performance, portability, and reliability. The all new Edge features the first ever integrated personal measurement assistant. With its built-in touch screen and on-board operating system, the Edge revolutionizes portable metrology by providing stand-alone basic measurement capability. To complement the power and precision of the Edge, the all new FARO Laser Line Probe attachment creates the revolutionary Edge ScanArm, providing unparalleled non-contact measurement capabilities. Its wider laser stripe significantly increases scan coverage without sacrificing accuracy, with exceptional speed and feature definition. The FARO Edge FaroArm® product has been featured on Paul Jr. Designs and a web feature on Jay Leno's Garage.
The Vantage product is part of the Laser Tracker family of products from FARO. The FARO Laser Tracker is an extremely accurate, portable coordinate measuring machine that enables users to build products, optimize processes, and deliver solutions by measuring quickly, simply and precisely. Replacing conventional tools such as piano wire, plumb bobs, layout machines, large-volume fixed CMMs, optical transits, and total stations, the FARO Laser Tracker is a more accurate and reliable portable 3D measurement tool that allows users to streamline their processes and be confident in their measurement results.
Initial production for the PCBA's for the Edge and Vantage products is under way at Kimball Electronics – Tampa, located in Tampa, Florida. The printed circuit board assemblies are expected to be approximately $7 million in annual revenue for Kimball Electronics and full production will begin in the Spring of 2013.
